I just had a fight with a kidney stone. It was the worst thing I have ever been through in my life. I have never had one before and I am here to say

My sister-in-law had kidney stones and her doctor told her that she needed to cut out the soda and drink lots of water. I had not heard that tea could cause them, that is interesting, as is, the cranberry juice helping."Do not fear, for I am with you;

Hey U.S. sorry to hear about your attack! I haven't had that but I recently had a gallbladder attack it was not fun either although it sounds like yours was much worse. I am glad that you made it through OK and I pray that you never get another one.Be informed NOT indoctrinated!

I believe you will find out that most kidney stones are caused by too much calcium. As we get older, we don't process it as well as we used to, or if you aren't getting enough exercise, the body doesn't absorb calcium. To my knowledge, sodas do not cause them, but they are not good for you anyway.

There are 2 common types of kidney stones; calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate...
People prone to forming calcium oxalate stones may be asked by their doctor to limit or avoid certain foods if their urine contains an excess of oxalate.
High-oxalate foods-higher to lower
•rhubarb
•spinach
•beets
•swiss chard
•wheat germ
•soybean crackers
•peanuts
•okra
•chocolate
•black Indian tea
•sweet potatoes
I believe the Calcium phosphate stones can be caused by high consumption of sodas.

I have read the same thing no milk and no soda. I take the stone in to the doc. today. Since my experiance I have not drank one soda or had a glass of milk. I refuse to ever have another Kidney stone again if I can help it. When I was in the hospital I was talking to the nurse and she told me she has had 2 children and 3 kidney stones. She told me the kidney stones hurt worse than child labor. I will do what ever i have to do to keep these things away. WOW did it hurt. Thanks for all of your responces it gives me more questions to ask the Doc.When an emergency is upon you the time for preparation has past.

I have passed several over the years. The first two put me in the emergency room, but I have since gotten used to the pain. I feel down-and-out for about a day, pass a small stone, then everything clears up. I'm one of the lucky one's that is predisposed to the condition. Doc told me to keeping hydrated at all times is the key to minimizing the problems. He also said that the amounts of the perviously listed foods, I would have to eat literally pounds of them each day to really make a difference. One of the problems with soda is the caffine, which is a dieturetic, pulling fluids out of the system. To equate the pain, I have a friend who has 3 kids and has also passed stones. She stated she would rather give birth than pass another stone any day of the week.

It depends on the type of stone. Some are related to calcium intake.
But generally, many stones are caused by dehydration. The kidneys love water (pure water). Tea does not cause kidney stones. But tea, coffee, colas, all have caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic which can lead to dehydration. Alcohol is also a diuretic. If you drink coffee, tea, colas, beer, etc. you will need more water.
The subject is a little deeper than this, but start with water. Water keeps your body healthy. Dehydration is implicated in a multiple of diseases and illnesses. Stay hydrated.EXPECT THE BEST - PREPARE FOR THE WORSE

Yes, cranberry is good for the kidneys. Be sure to use a quality type of juice. Many are not real cranberry, or are mixed with other juices, and have frutose, corn syrup, sugar, etc. which is not healthy for the body or the kidneys. Some people do more harm than good by using a low quality juice.
At health food stores, you can buy 100 % pure cranberry juice. It is very sour, but at least you know you have the real deal. Also be sure to drink plenty of water.EXPECT THE BEST - PREPARE FOR THE WORSE
