        sq ft gardening. good book ,,goes into growing stuff like that to save space etc.

        old 55 gallon barrels could be used as well..

            potatoes cut up today... will plant tomorrow!
            a buddy told me tonight at a gathering to hurry and get them in the ground during the waning moon... as this was a root crop.

            I've got to study up on my "moon phases."
            I didn't want him to know I wasn't up to snuff on moon phases!!

              On growing potatoes vertically...as the plant grows (according to the article), you keep adding dirt. Would not the largest/oldest potatoes be at the bottom of the growing container? If they are in fact at the lower section, would you remove a lower board and dig out the mature potatoes while the later ones are still maturing?
