  • Farmhouse Table and Bench

Here are some pics of a lil project I have been working on over the weekend. Could be a one day project with over night drying but kids and life kept me from 1 day completion.
I am sick of furniture stores. So I bought a mitre saw. I have common sense. So I decided to start building my own furniture.
The wife has unleashed the skills and I am afraid I should have kept them hidden until I was an old man....LOL

This farmhouse table and bench will seat 8-10. I kinda wanted a "Robertson Family" table so that we could mimic that awesome family at dinner.

All in all, it was not so tough. About 12 total labor hours and about 12 Sweetwater IPAS (Wise Owl best beer award)

If anyone wants the links with the instructions, I can get them from the Mrs.

This table will fit perfectly in the homestead that we are buying (all appendages crossed and prayers please folks,) we will know in a week.

    Enjoy

Good looking table. I went the same route with my furniture several years ago. Was in the market for a wood coffee/end tables made out of REAL wood. Went to every furniture store in town and couldn't find one. All I had was a Skill saw, sander, router and some hand tools. $110 worth of red oak and a couple weekends puttering and I had the tables. Wife bought me woodworking tools every Christmas for about 10 years (the tables are 25 years old and still in my living room). Amazing what you can do with some planing and a little sweat :-). Good job and skills that will help you save major dollars.

Looks great WiseOwl. We have some leftover flooring that my wife wants to do something similar with. Did you put a clear coat over the top?

I didn't. My wife thought about it but we want to see if it will hold up without one.
It isnt required but its a possibility

We were eating at a pizza place a couple of weeks back and there was a guy in there that looked like a late 1800's bare knuckle boxer. He had the best mustache I have ever seen. Curled up like Rollie Fingers. I was intimidated. I told my wife afterwards that he once looked at me and wiggled it. I wanted to take a pic with him but that was too much.

I did wear my S&P shirt (with a slightly unshaven stache) while I built the beginnings of this table if that counts.

Dude shoot me your email address an I can send you the blueprint. So easy a caveman could do it. All you need is a mitre saw and a drill.

Circular saw will do the trick. I dont have a steady hand for straight lines.. lol. My wife wanted me to trim one edge on the table because there was 2 boards 3/8 " longer. She wanted them even. I told her I would have to build her a whole new table because I cant cut a straight line. So we put that end of the table closer to the wall.
