  • Jerkey soup

One thing that gows well along the banks of the rivers here in upstate and northern NY is fiddleheads. Another is leeks. Got some jerky and you can make a good soup when out in the great outdoors. Alone with the three ingredients its pretty good, if you have anything else to toss in it, it makes it better.

Basic soup for one; 2 cups water, 3oz-8oz of jerkey, small handful of fiddleheads, and a couple leeks chopped up. Chop up the jerkey into small pieces and tos it in a pot at a low boil. Cook jerkey until it is well hydrated again then toss in the other two ingredients. Cook until they are soft (not mushy) and serve.

Now, if you have other goodies like sumac or pine nuts you can really up the ante on flavor.

If you are doing this at home, I would suggest adding in a vegetable or beef boulion cube for each serving and tossing in a couple other favorite soup veggies like turnips, potatoes, carrots, onions, or whatever.
