  • Spam Musubi

At the request of elittle from a post I made in the basics suggestion, I'm posting this here in the recipe section.
First; this is a traditional Hawaiian treat/meal/dish, with simple ingredients that you may already have for LTS.
Second; make a note that you should use Sushi Rice to make Musubi, as this is also referred to as "sticky rice". since we don't live in Hawaii anymore we have found a Calrose (Botan, #1 Extra Fancy, in a White bag with oriental letters printed on the package) brand that works great. Calrose is the largest supplier of Sushi rice in the US (maybe the world). But be careful, not all the rice Calrose produces is Sushi Rice. they also package the same rice that other states like Arkansas and others package. you make this rice just like you would other rices'. two cups of water to one cup of rice. I would think you will cook for the same amount time (we use a rice cooker (while we can)).
Third; if you live in a community where you have a sizable Japanese or Hawaiian population, I suggest keeping a few Spam Musubi molds close by. this way the the musubi will be more uniform in size (if you care). But I will admit, in a SHTF moment, the can (as used in the video) will work great.
Fourth; our family does not use the Seaweed. There really is no reason other than a garnish. what we do is wrap the finished product in Plastic Wrap, and then refrigerate to let the kids have a snack.

Oh and this is not me or my video, I just found it as a simple example to my original post in the "Basics" section.
