      No problem, and good luck!
Maybe someday I'll meet up with you and share a shot with you. ;-)

I have not ever distilled but do increase alcohol content by freezing hard apple cider. This is an old way on making apple jack. Take 5-15 gallon plastic pail ( primary fermenter) and fill it 2/3 full of apple cider and put outside for a couple days when it will get around zero. Then take inside take the lid of and it will be a big ice ball. Take a steel rod and pound into center of it usually only inch or two of ice on outside pour this into another pail keeping the ice in the original pail. Now taste the liquid that poured out. The water is what freezes so it concentrates the alcohol. If you want stronger you can repeat with the liquid by setting out again. I then put in soda keg and add CO2 to it to carbonate about 8 lbs. for 3-4 days then bottle. I like a bit of carbonation in it but you don

I wonder if corn mash alcohol could be seperated the same way? The cooking of the mash is for turning the alcohol into a vapor for distilling only and not for taste, correct?

The freezing technic can only get you to a point I think 40 proof or so. Just like the antifreeze in your car once the alchohol gets to a certain percent it no longer will freeze the water out at normal temps.

There is a section in one of the early FoxFire books about making shine. As I recall it was comprehensive.

You can use google to look up "How to make a still" http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+make+a+still

then click the instructables.com site. There is a lot of info out there.

Just an FYI... using it for "alcohol" is illegal though... just saying.

Make my own wine from muscadines and blackberries grown on land. Stocking up lots of sugar to keep making after surf. Good bartering tool.

Would like, too, to try hand at distilling. As a chemical engineer, learned to distill in college, but that was a LONG time ago.
