Long Distance Laser Illuminator

Has anyone done one of these? Its basically a laser pointer that has a lens on the end that diffuses the beam so that it becomes a powerful flashlight/spotlight.

I am thinking about trying this out. I would think that if was combined with the strobe effect of my LED flashlight that I gave a review on it would be a very powerful force multiplier.

Thoughts/comments?
