Cool concept, but a few cons...
    1. WEIGHT ~ That pipe loaded up will have some heft, and that weight will be directly beared by a weaker muscle group, the ARMS and HANDS, than the back or legs as usual in a backpack or belt pack. Add many miles of swinging that pipe and I think the WEIGHT reality would hit home.
    2. SLOWER RESPONSE ~ I don't know about anyone else, but my Black Diamond hiking poles have saved me from a tumble or twisted ankle many times in the mountains of Virginia, especially in the fall when all the roots and rocks are hidden under fallen leaves. Some of these tumbles could have sent me over an edge and tumbling down an incline. It was the ability to QUICKLY move, control and ground my ultra-lightweight, but strong hiking poles that helped turn a possible injury into a simple "whoops." That thick and heavy pole will be much, much slower to flick around as needed in a hike.

The concept has a good purpose, as a type of BOP (Bug Out Pole) LOL! of last resort, but for a FIRST LINE item, I'm not sold yet...

Great idea. If you wrap a contractor bag around the staff along with a few zip lock bags before you wrap the 550 cord you will also have water proof shelter and a way to store more water. A compass mounted on the cap might be nice.
Again nice job. Thanks for sharing.

I have to do some pvc plumbing this weekend. I'm going to put one togehter and try couple of different diameter of pipe to see how the fit my hand and feel.
