  • Faith, family and preparing

I am curious if anyone else has ran into this situation.
I've been getting food, ammo, security, meds, water and the like together for a while now. My family and I are dedicated to this lifestyle and are pretty squared away logistically. I've tried to discuss preparing with some of my immediate family members the fact that they should at least get 6 months of food storage for their families and my wife and I could probably help them, we just can't afford to do it all. Their response has been 'the Lord will provide'. The way they responded was such that it seems they're using that as an excuse to not spend the money. My response is, 'do you think God is allowing you the finances now so you can prepare?' They can indeed, afford at the bare minimum, and probably more, 6 months of food. Are they correct in their faith and are my wife and I being of little faith in our preps. I've prayed on this, asking God to guide us and I don't believe God has a problem with us preparing. I was just curious if any of you have run into this dilemma and how you handle it? Thank you and happy new year.

I for one believe that you hit the mark with your response to them. God provides for us and guides us but only if we listen. He provides for them the financial ability to prepare and he has provided to them YOU as a teacher or gentle nudge to prepare. I can't answer as to whether or not they are using their faith as a excuse to not prepare. But I know people who have.

There's an old joke (forgive me if I can't remember it exactly).

There's a person on the roof during a flood. A helicopter team comes to the resque. The person waves them off saying "The Lord will save me". A guy in a boat comes by and offers a ride. Again, the person says "The Lord will save me". A swimmer comes by with some life jackets and offers to thelp the person to safety. Again, the response is "The Lord will save me". Eventually the person dies of exposure and dehydration and is at the Pearly Gates. He's miffed and asks "Lord, I put my faith in you, why didn't you save me?". He replies "What do you mean, I sent you a helicopter, a boat and a swimmer".

"Lord, grant us the wisdom to recognize your will and your attempts to show us the way".

Where would Noah have been if he just waited and not acted when he heard from God to build the boat!

Do they go to the doctor?
Do they have home owners, car or life insurance?
Do they take medicines like antibiotics when they are sick?
I've heard that answer/excuse before and asked those questions and when they say yes to anyone of those questions I say "where's your faith? You can't have faith for one thing and not for another can you?" That usually gets them thinking. Then I usually just say my preps are my insurance just like my car insurance and home owners insurance, kinda like Noah thought the boat may be a good idea.

Now, I happen to believe God is putting information and others in our lives for us to act. Your family may have heard God say "have faith" I don't know. I'm just telling you what I have done in the past. YMMV

XD- sometimes with family you just have to bite the bullet and put some food back FOR them. It sucks but some people just won't do it themselves. They are family though and that bond will always be. I'm not saying necessarily a year of Mt. House, but rice and beans and basics should suffice.

I was single and 21 years old and prepared for 12 mouths to feed with brothers and their kids, parents, etc. ALL were financially much better off than I was and just as capable physically. I knew they wouldn't do it for themselves. As some of their kids have grown up, I've considered it less and less, as most of them have been exposed to survivalism through me and have done some on their own.

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

I have heard this before and I have made some if not most of the same comments that have been mentioned here to them. Personally it sounds more and more like a cop out the more I hear it. I also do like 1Admin and I set aside basics for them...50 lb bags of rice, beans, and wheat can go a long ways for them. Prepared Christian has some great verses to give to people like this. Eventually your crap bucket gets full and you stop talking to them about it or they get on board.

I think I'm at the point where I'm going to put some food back for whoever I can and pray for the best. I've got my wife and little ones taken care of, so I feel pretty good.

Sounds like you are in a good spot to me...I would just keep pointing out the things that happen society that support our position of being self sufficient and maybe the lightbulb will go on.

Looking at society, you would think "God Provides..." fast food, Air Jordans, iPhones, iPads, LED TV's, Blu-Rays, IMAX movie tickets, jewelry, and McMansions in suburbia... LOL!

                      You preppers are weird...
