  • Prayer for our son

    Hi All,

As I mentioned on my other thread, our medically fragile special needs child is scheduled to go in for back surgery on the week of the 16th. He has a severe scoliosis curve and they will be fusing his back with a rod. He is expected to be in the hospital for 7 days, the first night in ICU and the surgery is expected to last 6+ hours. Since January of this year I have been taking him to see all of the specialists to ensure he can actually handle this surgery and to ensure we are making the right decision in having him have this surgery. It has not been easy.

Also, he may need to have an endoscopy next week to make sure nothing is going on in his GI tract. He is on a feeding tube and yesterday morning when I went in to start getting him ready for school he started to vomit some of the formula from his feeding tube due to have his hips elevated for too long as I was changing his diaper. That is something that happens from time to time, but what happened next is not something that has ever happened before, he started vomiting blood, and not just a little bit. Anyway, I called the doctor and we are going in next week to have him checked out to make sure this is not something serious. I kept him home from school yesterday and he was fine all day yesterday and last night no problems with the feeding tube.

With all of this going is why I have not been on the forums much recently, plus I have not had time to do any prepping, gardening, etc.

Anyway, I would appreciate your prayers as our family goes into this surgery as it will be very hard. Not just for him, but for all of his in trying to care for him after he comes home from the hospital. It truly will be all consuming.

    Thanks,
    SC

I will be thinking of you and your family. Our sons had a playdate yesterday with a special needs child and her brother. While at the playdate the brother had a seizure and ended up in the ICU of our local childrens hospital. I am going to watch the special needs child today so the parents can focus on the brother. She is a very sweet child and indeed brings joy to all around her. At the risk of sounding too religious, God gave you a special child because you are strong enough to love him. He will not let you make a mistake in his care.

Thank you for what you said, that really helps me to read that, and means a lot.

                    amen and amen..

and asking that the buyer of your home start their search process and be ready to make a generous offer and settlement for your home... may you know that The One True God moved and dealt in that real estate transaction also.

                      Hi,
I just joined the Forum today and have been looking around. I saw the prayer request forum and saw your thread. Your request could have been from me and my family back in 2002. Our severely disabled son also developed scoliosis and had to have a full spinal fusion. I see that there hasn't been an update since right after you posted it. I am praying that you are now home, that your son is doing better and healing well. I am also praying for the GI issues, that they have been resolved. God bless you as you care for your sweet son.

                        Hi Georgia Girl, welcome!

I apologize for not posting an update before this, but after the surgery my husband and I came down with horrible colds and we are still trying to recover.

With regards to the surgery, it went amazingly well and he has been doing great. He was supposed to be in the hospital for 7 days, but they released him on day four because he was doing so well. Ever since we left the hospital he has only required Ibuprofen and Tylenol for pain control. We are so thankful for all the prayers that have been made on behalf of our son and our family, and we are definitely giving God lots of praise for getting our son through this without a lot of pain.

Our son sits in his wheel chair for about 4 hours total during the day, generally about an hour at a time before he needs to lay on the couch. And he looks great! He is sitting up nice and tall and looks like a teenager now rather than a little kid. We are very thankful that this has been so much easier than the last major surgery he had.

Thank you again to everyone here for your prayers.
