My wife passed just after 1230 am Thursday. Breathing was barely noticeable at the end, was holding her hand and she just went. Very sad time.

Like GB said, you were there. Five years ago I was beside my Mother when she was dying of congestive heart failure. Her last seven hours I was by her side and I was told the last two she wasn't concious enough to know of her suroundings..but I believe some small part of her knew I was there holding her hand. I would talk quietly to her, sometime's about nothing until I thought my head was just ratteling. But I wanted her to know I was by her side, she had someone here on earth until the good lord took her home.
You did that, through the good time's and then the bad, her heart's companion was there to send her off. Maybe it's selfish of me to think this way but I believe there is at least some small comfort to those in their last moments on earth when their loved ones are there with them.
