  • Verse from version I'm not familiar with

Need to find this verse, it's not in the version (KJV) I'm familiar with. Glanced through the NT forward of the Gospels for this in an NIV and NKJV also and didn't come up with anything.

It sounds a lot like several verses I'm familiar with in the KJV, but it's obviously not them.

Can anyone put a finger on what verse and what version this came from?

"If we trust the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, believing that He died and rose again, we will have our sins forgiven and be given eternal life."

    TIA
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

It's part of the Roman's Road... though I'm not sure what translation that is, this should be your verse.

Rom 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (KJV)

      Bran <><
      Rom. 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

Rom. 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Thanks guys. Sounded just like that verse in Romans but was so different sounding it made me doubt it.

Still would love to know the version it is from. So many versions now, changes the meaning on certain things.

No problem... I'd search the verse through the 17 translations I currently have installed in my e-Sword Bible program, but I'm working at the moment. :-/

Even Satan believes this "in his heart"... Yet he is not saved. The real cool study is what does "confess with thy mouth" in CONTEXT really mean? Someone could really take that verse and run with it, creating a doctrine based on a sentence pulled out of a complete letter... (Many already have...)

I hold that it means MORE than just words uttered, which is Lordship, which is based upon BONDSERVANT. Study what is a bondservant, as Paul called himself, which is based on Old Testament slave/master relations, and "confess with your mouth" takes on some seriously deep levels...

Yes, you're right (if one decides to take thing out of context)... Jas 2:19 "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."
However, Lucifer (and the rest of the angels who followed him) left their perfect condition when they sinned.
Satan (and the angel's) sin condemned him (and them) to damnation in hell. Hell was created for them, not us.
God provided a way out through Jesus Christ...
Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Romans 10:10 "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Let's take a look at the word "confessed" in the Greek,

              Strongs - G3670
              ὁμολογέω
              homologeō
              hom-ol-og-eh'-o
From a compound of the base of G3674 and G3056; to assent, that is, covenant, acknowledge: - con- (pro-) fess, confession is made, give thanks, promise.

So really, it IS more than "words uddered"... it's a belief (in your heart) and an action (with your mouth)... and what takes place is something that like you said, takes on something MUCH more deep which is the depth Paul was referring to when he called himself " δοῦλος "
I agree though, what you're confessing to God something very serious and not just a "salvation card" as some treat it.

Sorry, but couldn't find that wording in any of the translations I have. Are you sure about the wording?
