Why an infrared laser?
Mounting an IR laser on your rifle allows you to helmet mount or head mount your PVS14 for a more natural "look around" versus having to always have the rifle "mounted" to your shoulder to take a "quick peek" through the Night Vision. Most people who end up USING NV for any period of time end up mounting an IR laser on their weapon and head or helmet mounting the PVS14. Also, when using with a HIGH CALIBER weapon (above 5.56) this allows a safer set up than weapons mounting the unit.
