Awesome deal! Got 2. I still have a whole box of M13A2 filters for the M17 but nothing to use them in, now I can keep these for charity or helping a neighbor, if so needed.

As a side note on filters for these, as I'm sure Lowdown3 would agree with, just because USGI M17 filters are "expired" really means nothing unless one is in a CHEMICAL environment. The only thing that can become "ineffective" is the activated carbon in the filters. The filter media will remain effective as long as the structure of the filter remains intact and pliable. The filters will work PERFECTLY for nuclear and biological events (less smallpox, which requires a smaller micron filter)...

Or, for the cost, perfectly for painting, wood stripping, or cutting the lawn in pollen season... LOL! The drive-bys would love seeing that!

      Correct.

Most gas mask filters have essentially two elements. One is a screening type element. This is what filters out your nuclear fallout particles, biological spores, etc. The second element is a block of chemicals- usually something charcoal or carbon type based. These are for your gases.

      Thanks again!

Just don't forget, the activated charcoal (your chemical vapor blocker) does NOT filter out all gases (especially Carbon Monoxide). Also once the filter is removed from its plastic sealed bag, the activated charcoal starts losing its effectiveness. I do not remember what the "after opening" shelf life was for our M40s, but I do know there was one. =)

Yes, gas masks should never be considered for a house fire or any situation where oxygen is lacking. Gas masks FILTER, they do not provide air.

I should have posted this earlier, but I received my two masks super fast and well packaged. Thanks JRH... I now have a few to give out as charity if the need arises (and I hope it never does)...

The masks were just as described, BRAND NEW, still sealed in plastic. The mask, accessories and canvas case are well made and functional. The filters are only sealed in a plastic pouch, which is far less than the DOUBLE pouch the USGI M13A2 filters come in, and the USGI filters will also work in these masks. The M13A2's are sealed in a plastic pouch, which are them sealed in a tough, aluminized-type foil pouch.

Don't forget to find a M17-series HOOD for these masks. They will fit and really helps to keep the "cooties" off your head...

I got 2 (should've gotten a spare or two) of them and no complaints. I still have to go back and get the hoods, though. Thanks for reminding me.
What a long, strange trip it's been.....
