  • Katadyn Pocket filter sale

    http://www.jrhenterprises.com/produc...3&categoryId=8

Katadyn recently raised the prices on these without any prior warning

Anywhoo, we have a sale running on the right now for not as cheap as last time but we have absorbed most of the cost increase. The retail price Katadyn MAKES dealers stay at for these is $319. and your supposed to limit your sales to 2 weeks.

So here is a 2 week sale on them ;)

This is an awesome filter. For those that do not have a filter, this could easily be the one. I have read that it can filter 13,000 gallons of water with one filter. I still cannot grasp why the governments around the world do not supply these after an emergency strikes. Can you imagine how these could have helped in Haiti? Just think if a hundred of these were passed out to different locations for the citizens to get clean water to drink. That could have been 13,000,000 gallons of water that could have been made potable for Haitians.

But lets say that you can only get 10,000 gallons from a filter, then for a family of four which requires 1 gallon each per day, this filter could supply potable water for 2500 days. Yep, 4 gallons per day for 2500 days. That's only 2.5 cents per day based on the great price Lowdown is offering this filter. That is enough water for your family for close to 7 years (if you don't barter any away).

So, the real question is....is 2.5 cents per day worth it for you to have clean water?

@PS - you have 1 too many 0's in your estimation but it is still a lot of water that could have been available to them. You would have had to put out 1000 of those filters to get the 13 million gallons.

You have an excellent point though, why don't they hand these out? Why doesn't Red Cross and other relief organizations hand them out? These could have easily avoided the cholera outbreak. Its stupid and unnecessary.

I an actuality you use a minimum of 3 gallons of water. Eating, drinking, cooking, and bathing. This makes me want to look at my water bill to see how much water I actually use in a billing cycle.

I got the mini filter recently and I will test it out soon and maybe do a video thanks to Protus suggestion of Windows Movie Maker.

Oops, you are right that should be 1,300,000 gallons, still nothing to shake a stick at. I guess it's better for me to make an error on here than at work when I'm dealing with dosages :o

Just a further heads up- Katadyn today informed me of a "2 week delay" currently with the pocket filters.

It always starts with long term storage food but usually does filter down to water filters, med gear, grain grinders, etc.

Hopefully we won't all see 2 months to get a quality water filter like what happened in 98 and 99.....

Thanks. Unfortunately now lead time for these are up more now. Importer is saying "2-3 weeks" now.
We do not charge orders before they are ready to ship, but outside of that, can't do anything about the lead times now. All I can say is last time we ran a sale here (last fall?) , I had a half dozen of them sitting on my shelves for a month.

Katadyn Mini filters- the smaller, more inexpensive version is currently available. So if people are in the "I want it now" mode, that gives an option- for the time being until Mini Filters get backed up also....

This is the nature of the industry right now with TS hitting TF around the world.

I guess, I'm glad I bought this when I did! Silver prices are going through the roof! I don't know how much silver is in the filter, do you think these could go crazy in price? With the way silver prices are going?, I'd like to get a back up at some point.............thanks!

The bigger concern is Katadyn being so backed up on these. We probably should just stop taking orders for these, they have told us upwards of 4 weeks now. We don't charge anyone till their order is ready to ship. We received a big shipment Friday and they are already boxed and ready to be re-shipped tomorrow but it barely made a dent. We are up to March 25 orders now IIRC (don't quote me on that).

Hadn't thought about silver possibly being an issue with why they are taking so long, figured it was more just the high demand. I notice "Berkeys" are running over 4 weeks now.

When these rushes happen, things will go in crazy cycles. As last as December/January we had about a dozen of these sitting on the shelf that WEREN'T moving. And that's a lot of money for a small business to have sitting in inventory. Then they all sold in a short period of time and Katadyn started telling us lead times.

Their are a few Mini Filters left in stock. I have to reorder them this week, hopefully their won't be a lead time on them now also....

I'd trade the frantic "rushes" for slow and steady any time. Unfortunately that's not how a lot of people prep.

On the price issue- haven't heard anything on any price increase, but they did go up almost $30. on us without notice the first of January...

Wow, thats crazy! I ordered mine on the 31st, I think. :( ! lol! Thanks for the update! I follow silver and gold, alittle bit, and know that silver is manipulated, more than my mind can handle. Just a thought on the filters, demand on silver and demand on filters! YUK! lol!

Katadyn makes a great product. Probably put 120-140 gallons through my Katadyn pocket so far but I expect it'll be working for a long time to come. Purchased my K pocket online from High Mountains Merchandise a couple of years ago when I lived on Colorado. In addition, I also use the Katadyn drip system, 100s of gallons to date and still going strong. Can't say enough good stuff about their product line. Katadyn stuff was never cheap so sorry to see prices going up, especially for the replacement filters.

Mini Filters also are now backed up, waiting to hear how long. Last ones in inventory sold last week..... You can't accurately guess these things. I sat on those Mini filters for about a month, no one wanted one, then all the sudden they flew off the shelves.

Katadyn importer now quoting "3-4 weeks" on Pocket filters. Of course your not charged until they ship, which is why we won't take Paypal payments for these or storage food now. With paypal your out the money immediately whereas with a standard CC order, your aren't out a penny till it's heading out the door to you.

Best way to "check on" your order is see if your card has been charged. If it has not been charged, it's not ready to ship. We don't receive "updates" from the importer they just ship when they ship and they arrive here a couple days later.

If a D.C. from up north is on the forum here and placed an order for a Pocket Filter- we need to hear from you immediately regarding your order. Have sent three emails and left voice mails. Gonna have to pass you by on this if we don't hear something back by Monday. TIA
