  • Garden seeds in #10 cans

So the best option always is to grow a garden every year or very close to, and keep your own seeds from your garden. While this remains the best option, a ruined crop, drought, storm, early freeze, etc. can set you back years in seed saving. Their will be no running out to buy more seeds in the P.A.W!

Having some non hybrid non gmo seeds in #10 cans put back could mean the difference between having a garden or not/being able to feed your family fresh food or not.

We can -and should- store piles of rice, beans, etc. However the biggest thing most diets on storage food lack is fresh enzymes and vitamins.

To this end, we are going to offer a Forum Special on #10 cans of non hybrid non gmo seeds.

We have carried these since 94 but last website update they were accidentally dropped from the store site. They have been added again.

Each can contains 15 varieties of vegetable seed in individual packages. If properly cared for, each can may produce vegetables sufficient for the yearly needs of a family of four (fresh and canned). All seed varieties are Non-Hybrid, meaning seed can be harvested from the plants and remain true-to-variety, unlike Hybrid varieties which will not remain true-to-variety. This allows for perpetual food storage

We always try to avoid the "pay upfront" payment methods- paypal, check and money order- whenever their is a lead time on an item. The reason is that we do not like customers to be out money before the item is on it's way to them. With all the items shipped direct from us that isn't a problem. These seeds and other food products are shipped from the factory and right now they are 3-4 weeks backed up. Essentially you'd be paying a month ahead of when your product would be shipped. I prefer to avoid that if at all possible. With a standard visa, mastercard, discover order your card won't be processed until the order ships out to you- negating the problem of someone being out before the product is shipped.

If we have done business before and/or you are comfortable with the lead time and being out the money upfront, I don't personally have a problem with a "paid upfront" form of payment- check, money order/Paypal.

I don't suppose you can sell just 1 can? I can't afford 6 #10 cans but I could swing 1 can. If not no worries.

I thought that seeds needed oxygen to survive. How do these live in a sealed can? I am only asking out of ignorance in an attempt to learn. THanks.

That's why when packed like this they DO NOT use an oxygen absorber.

Also, experience has shown them to DOWNGRADE the longevity of the seeds. I remember hearing "indefinitely" in the 80's on storage life of these. I thought at the time, "how did they come up with that?"

Hence the 3 years on the viability.

We have seen that and longer on seeds in plastic baggies where the air was purged out when it was filled.

As I said in the OP, you really need to be growing a garden every year and keeping seeds year to year. THAT is your best "seed storage" plan. The problem is that planting a little too early or a little too late can ruin a crop. A late freeze, too much rain, too little rain, a bug infestation, NBC agents, etc. could all render your year to year seed stock FUBAR. That's where pre packaged seeds like this could come in handy.

This is NOT a "buy it, put it away and forget about it" item like some long term food storage. I would start growing something within 3 years. It's a backup and for those of us not growing a large garden and keeping the seeds from it from year to year, it's a starting place.

a friend of mine in upstate new york has turned me onto a little tip about home gardening.

he uses seeds from his own veggies, where applicable.he sent me down some seeds this last year for corn, squash, and pole beans.they did ok for the soil conditions but next year i have plans to get some fertilizer to help those seeds out.
