  • Hello from upstate New York

Hi I'm Kirk Mcquest. I recently 'took the plunge' and bought my 100 acre homestead here in beautiful upstate New York. I didn't do it just for survival reasons, I did it because I've always loved the outdoors and I always wanted to live 'this kind' of life.

I'm 38 years old and I cannot believe that I finally did it! I've only owned the place for about 3 weeks now so my head is aching with all the things that need to be done. So far all I've done was go fishing and cut some wood.

Just a few months ago I was sitting in my stinking apartment watching the 'survivalreport' videos and dreaming. Anyway I just wanted to greet you all and introduce myself.

    Kirk

            Bravo and welcome Kirk.
Grew up in Chenango county. Upstate NY is great. Excellent hunting and fishing in that region.
            Kudos for ditching the apartment.

Kirk - if you are not familiar with the north country get ready for winter! expect snow - maybe feet of it on the ground depending on where you are. Power outages are likely for a day or more. Make sure you have alternate (reliable) heat and fuel and a way to get water - at least some stored frozen in your freezer (these will give you water as they thaw and help keep your freezer frozen until then).
