  • Hello!

Hi, new here. Glad to see some like minded people. I purchased some 5 gallon containers and thinking I should put smaller amounts of different items in there rather then a full bucket of beans or whatever. I can't possible eat 5 gallons of beans without it going bad or causing an EPA scare. What do you normally put in a 5 gallon container?

Hello from Georgia!! Here's what I put in my 5 gal buckets:

        Double zip-lock baggies:

        1 cup sugar
        1 cup salt
        1 cup dried onion
        1/2 cup Italian seasoning
        1/2 cup garlic
        1/4 cup Cajun seasoning
        1/4 cup cinnamon

I use the 1 gallong mylar on the below:

2 ea 5-pound bags of rice
2 ea 5-pound bags of beans
1 ea 3-pound bag of rolled oats.

I'm pretty much a newbie. If you look at my thread around 'Newbie packed first buckets' or something like that you'll see how I came to that combination.

          Hello

Thanks for the information. One of my issues is that I'm not a chef or much of a baker and look at flour and just sort of scratch my head what to do with it. I guess if I'm going to bake then, I need to learn now. Otherwise, I want to stock things I actually know how to cook when the time comes. I want to know it is things I actually like. I will be looking at the forums gathering information so that I can best prepare ahead.
