  • GMO Seeds

I have GMO seeds that were passed down to me from my grandfather after he passed away. I have had these seeds for almost 22 years. Does anyone know what the life shelf on GMO seeds are? Should I keep them or throw them away?

Are you sure they are GMO seeds and not heirloom seeds? GMO means genetically modified organisms. GMOs were first put on the market in 1996, but there is no telling how long scientists had been experimenting on them before that.

If they are actually heirloom seeds, I would try to germinate a few and see if they are viable.

      heirloom seeds not Gmo

Your right MustangGal they are heirloom seeds. After speaking with my older brother today he confirmed I had my grandfathers heirloom seeds and they are over 30yrs old. But I still wonder if they will germinate after all these years ?

Of interest, I read that they took some of the wheat from jars they found in the pyramids that were over 8,000 years old, sprouted them, and they grew. It's all about how they were stored.

Thanks Matt, Wish me luck…… I just put some of the seeds in a wet paper towel and place them in my kitchen windows. We’ll see what happens. ……. Have a great day!

Do you know what kind of seeds they are. It's been frosty but sunny here, I'm getting the gardening bug, but know it will be a couple of months before I can put anything out.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?
