I am thrilled to find a site where I can ask questions from such a diverse group of people. I have been studying and reading a great deal about preparedness but I have found myself overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of "stuff" that needs to be collected. The largest personal challenge is developing skills and acquiring the "stuff" that I need and will be used. I am not a big fan of collecting a huge amount of stuff that will never be used unless SHTF. I am on my second year of attempting to build on my gardening skills, acquiring gardening tools and hand tools in the event of total power failure but acquiring 1 year of food supplies have left me stumped. I have two small children that came to live with me several years ago, so I am truly concerned about making sure that there is a sustainable source of nutritious foods available. To that end I do not see stocking my house full of freeze dried and MRE's as the solution (although I would be willing to put several months of this type of food in reserve). I live on about ten acres with a small creek running at the outskirts of the property, with a well that is about 75 feet deep, and several wet areas that I believe may be natural springs (they stay wet pretty much year around), no outbuildings but a lot of woods that are about 20 years old. I am overwhelmed and trying to just take baby steps but there is so much to do and I fear not enough time to get an adequate supply of stuff put away. I am looking forward to the vast amount of knowledge and the many perspectives that each of you bring to the table.;)
