I would like to say hi to everybody out there. First off I'd like to state I am not anti government. I spent the better part of a decade serving this country in the Navy and am proud of my service. I joined this site to learn and share techniques for become more self sufficient. While I do recognize the need to be ready in case of a "emergency". My main driving focus is to just get back to being self reliant. It just makes me uncomfortable knowing most of what I currently depend on comes to me via some faceless producer from who know where. I want to produce my own goods and what I can't produce myself I'd like to find somebody locally that can whom I can barter with. IMO, our country has lost it's sense of community. The side benefit to knowing and working with your neighbors is in the event something serious does happen.... better survival in numbers.

Thanks for the welcome. @ Grand, I wasn't trying to imply anybody is anti-government. It's just that in my experience in creeping around various "preparedness" forums a lot of the conversation tends to dissolve into how the government is screwing everybody over. I chose to join this site because of the useful information and the general lack of "the man is holding us down" mentality.
