  • Hello from Australia

Hi everyone. I live in the state of South Australia in a large country town of about 12,000 people. My husband and I have a standard 3 bedroom house on an average suburban block of land. We have a large fruit and vegetable garden and 9 chooks and a rooster. I've been of a preparedness mindset for most of my life, but didn't realize it until several years ago. I make jams, jellies, pickles, sauces, dried fruit and veg and I grind grain to make my own bread and other baked goods.
My husband and I are nearing retirement age, so in this worldwide economic climate we are doing everything we can to prepare for our old age. We have paid off our mortgage and all major bills and gradually getting things done that we might find hard to afford after we retire. We are connected to mains water but also have 17000 litres (about 4,500 galls I think) of rainwater storage when all the tanks are full. We have grid connected solar panels and a heat exchange Hot Water Service which have significantly cut down on our power bills. Recently we had all the gutters replaced and our roof fixed and repainted.
We used to own a house on a 5 acre block of land, but unfortunately I became ill and could not maintain it. Now that I am much better, we have decided that it is better for us at our age to have something smaller and more manageable.

                              Welcome to the site.

Just curious! How you and your husband help defend yourselves at home and out -n-about with the gun laws in Australia (with how restrictive that they are)?
