I have all my prep moving along and well you know the rest.... do any of you find yourselves torn between wanting something to happen to say to everyone "see i wasn't crazy" and nothing to happen at all? Just doing a sanity check.

We all go through that but then realize it's only a matter of time and hope we have more of it to wake people up and polish our own efforts.
It's a bet, plain and simple. They win the bet, I'm only out a few bucks. I win the bet, they lose their lives.

Well you made me laugh this morning and I appreciate that! I certainly am not backing off what I am doing and have done, like you said Biathlon, if they win we're only out a few bucks and oh by the way, we jsut eat it or shoot it up. either way, good times. I suppose the point I was making or attempting to make was simply, I find myself truly pondering the nature of our efforts. While I place my faith in Christ I also beleive that He gives His children clarity of what is to come. I suppose I am rambling.....never mind.
thanks to all and I look forward to sharing info and discussions.

I have always been of the opinion nobody is ever truly prepared for whatever happens to come along. Oh sure, there are those that will get by, those that will improvise, those that will adapt and those that will overcome (yes, shades of Heartbreak Ridge there), but nobody is ever fully prepared for the SHTF situation no matter what they say. I can almost flat guarantee you everyone here that has lasted through an emergency situation has had something that either didn't work as advertised, was missing something from their preps or the situation didn't turn out like they expected it to.
Those that wish for something to happen scare me. They want to point the finger at the others and say "see I told you so!" For wanting something to happen, even on a minor scale means a complete disruption of someone's life. Maybe yours or maybe someone you know. But it will impact someone. And in the wake of a situation, even more are impacted by the conditions. Maybe it's higher taxes to help "reconstruction," maybe it's higher insurance costs, maybe it's spending more money than planned on things you didn't have. Too many factors to list here.
Then there are those who want something to happen so they can start forming up their own civilization according to what they want it to be. Sometimes that not a entirely bad thing, but other times, it would remind me of what happened in the book "Lights Out" when the other group led by the company manager guy had grand plans for contacting other groups and forming their own civilization in the wake of the burst. And if you don't toe the line, well, you're a threat. Those groups will surely emerge in a TEOTWAWKI situation and become threats to others trying to get along. And more often than not, force will be applied to the other groups.
Then there are those who will take advantage of the sitation because it gives them power. Power over others because they may have the most food, water, guns or ammo. And power can...will eventually corrupt. Of course there are those who will control thier own desires, but there are those who won't. Feudalism will rise (see above reasoning) and those who control the food, water, shelter and protection extort those who don't have those things.
So overall, there is no reason to wish for something to happen. Yes, we've all wondered how well we might be getting along when it does. It's kind of like receiving training for a job you never get to perform. You wish you could have the opportunity to try your preps and acquired skills. But when you weigh in the aftermath and the consequences, you start to see it's far better to be prepared and look back at your life as Protus puts it rather than lie on the ground, cold, tired and starving thinking of that one thing you overlooked in your last moments.Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

Don't forget Aware, it wasn't raining when God told Noah to build the Ark. A lot of what I do is with the same philosophy Protus expressed. We are absolutly headed for a global catastrophe. Period. Will it happen in my lifetime? Very likely. Will it happen in my sons lifetime. With certainty. My own parents were a disaster. My grandparents raised me and I began life with only what they taught me. No assets, vehicle, bicycle, nothing. I had very little clothing, shoes, a few books.
My boy is only 6. He will begin his life as an adult with much much more than I did.

Thank you all for your feedback as it truly is appreciated. Let me clarify my postion on this, I too beleive we are headed toward TEOTWAWKI and as with anything, nature has its own way of "cleansing" itself so to speak. We are not above the cleansing process and Lord knows we deserve it. I just see myself as a bit afraid while another part of me has absolutely no fear as I know where I will spend eternity and that afterall, our short time on planet Earth is merely a dress rehearsal for the big show. Perhaps a discussion for another forum. Again I'll hush and keep my comments to prepping and the like.

@ Aware - I too used to find myself wondering the same thoughts. But the more I have read and studied how much is TRULY needed if anything hits a fan - I realized that I VERY much enjoy being able to touch a button for heat/cold air. I enjoy knowing what is going on across the world, much less the county. I enjoy watching a movie with my little girls and then eating ice cream afterwards. I enjoy traveling hundreds of miles in the snow while complaining about how warm it is in the car. All that to say - I prep knowing/expecting something to happen and I want my family to thrive and survive. But I will be happy if nothing ever happens and like you said, "jsut eat it or shoot it up". Also, even if hyper-inflation never occurs - regular inflation IS occuring. So, all my "stuff" if just a good investment and is actually saving me spending more money in the long term.

I also can't understand the folks that seem to be or joke about actually "wanting" something to happen.
I think a lot of the times it's done in polite joking but often times also it's the scorned "no one believes me, I'll show them" loner attitude. Either way it's not good.
Most that truly believe this have never really thought through the full implications of something major happening.www.homesteadingandsurvival.com

Since I am still working on things I don't try to tempt fate. After reading enough history to know what happens to civilizations when they fall, I worry about it greatly. I feel though that people were more prepared for Y2K, then what is currently in the forecast.
But I see where you are coming from as "Was all this effort really worth it?" And in the famous words of Benjamin Franklin- "An ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure.""Fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our choosing"- Optimus Prime
