  • Greetings from Eastern Oklahoma

I've been reading this forum for a while and decided to join in. Married 41 yrs. Ranching, Homesteading and prepping for 40 yrs. Raised horses, cattle, hogs and all manner of fowl. Just like our grandparents and those before them.
You know that place where people say I wouldn't live out here? Well, we live 20 miles past there. It's peaceful, quiet and good neighbors. Only two types of people come here, those we know and those who got lost. There is one way in and one way out. The road is narrow and the ditches are deep. We've never had any problems with riff-raff.
It's home and has always been ours.

This is my first reply to another thread, hope it works right.
Red Diamond. Good to see another Eastern Okie on here. I have just moved back into the country and am working on getting a little set up going similiar to yours. I only have 20 acres, but am working on building fence right now. Buying pipe now (Expensive) and looking for a welder who doesn't charge an arm/leg. I can weld, but don't have the time to do the job I want for an outside fence.
Anyways, good to see you on here Sir.

Welcome back home RyanMac. Only 20 acres! That's more than enough to raise meat and vegetables for your family and have plenty to take to the local farmers market. Don't forget fruit trees, of course the ice storms are a menace to all trees. Yep, pipe is expensive. We just have old pointy wire. I do my own welding and there is very little that we can't do by ourselves. Our neighbors ranch has 41 sections, but our acreage, taxes and stress level are a "whole" lot less than his. LOL Actually stress is non existent here. Life is good, you just have to side-step the stinky piles.

Thanks Red Diamond, it is good to be back. Yes, I plan on raising meat/veggies/fruit. I have 4 chickens for now (started with 8...) and will upgrade many more with ducks in the spring. I will be getting some goats soon (dual purpose - milk/meat). Also, want 2 horses and maybe a cow or two. And will start on a garden this spring. I have planted 10 fruit trees, but they are a LONG way from being able to supply more than a few fruits. I also am working on berries/grapes. It is not easy getting started and my wife thinks I am silly. But I WILL be self sufficient one day. It's just a matter of time. I look forward to this site and learning as much as possible. If there is one thing that I have learned about prepping - it's that learning is continuous...
