  • got a cat?

we had a mouse/rat problem at the condo...
    poop, damaged soft goods...
picked up 3 poor shape kittens.

fed them, played with them... kept them outdoors.
    the female disappeared...

the 2 males continued to get bigger... they played together and fought each other in an aggressive but playful manner...
they would catch mice, rats, squirrels, lizards, frogs, chipmunks...
occasionally they would leave a frog head at the door.

i'd catch them a bream and they'd fight for it... no sharing... they would leap nearly waste high to get the fish before I could get it off the hook.
then they would start disappearing for a week at a time... usually taking turns... one would leave... then return and fight, not friendly any more the other cat...
the larger and more aggressive of the males finally started a fight he couldn't win... the smaller had been the one that got the fish each day!
he wasn't the alpha cat any longer and he's been gone now for a month...

the remaining cat, leaves for a few days but returns.

something got a hold of remaining cat... hole in head behind ear. I think I saw hole in skull. hole in a leg. walked on 3 legs. wouldn't let me tend to him.
I thought he was a goner... but no money for cat doctor..
prayed. serious prayer. cat got up and walked around! still acting drunk. (hole in head!) he acted sluggish another day. then 90% for a week.
I wish I knew what kind of critter got a hold of cat..
we've got fox, coyote, coons, dogs in community, but dogs stay away..
cat appears healed... nickel sized white spot on head with no hair! smaller hairless spot on leg.

    cat is measurably more friendly.
he aggravates ducks, but knows they are on the good guy list... makes me wonder if he decided to defend ducks... ducks have short life span around here.
    critters love ducks.

cat is back to stalking birds, chipmunks, etc...

i'd recommend you get a cat!

Good size fish, looks more like the size of bass we have round these parts.

The cats probably ate the ducks. Seriously. Wild or wild'ish cats have an extremely love of domestic poultry.

lol... I was hoping that several folks would comment before anyone explained that I didn't know what kind of fish that was...
        2 pts for ld3!!

we are on our 3rd set of ducks...
the first two sets and the pet geese all went to poultry heaven before the cats showed up.
of this group we had 3... daddy kept leading family on expeditions against our instructions..
I found dad 4/5 gone. I was busy, came back an hour later and dad was just a few feathers.
the mom and baby, (baby now is full sized) stay within their proper boundary...

the duck family and 3 baby cats all showed up together on the same day. they sort of grew up together.
