  • Suitcasing deer?

Anyone do it? Describe the method if you would.

It evidently saves a lot of time.

Tried it last night, but evidently not spectacular with this myself LOL.

    Never heard of that term.
I assume it has to do with dressing them out.
I know the way we did it was fast compared to the standard hang a cut up when in the field.
I tried looking up the term but nada ....

Might be a local thing - the word.

Sounds like it's a lot like how I do meat birds. Basically don't open them up at all.

Skin it, cut the head off, cut the neck meat off, go down the back getting the backstrap (I was able to just ride the bones here and get 95% of it), hack off the legs and what's left of the deer is kind of like a "suitcase" I guess.

Didn't seem like an appreciable loss of meat but saved a lot of time and no guts to mess with. The dogs have been feasting on the "suitcase" so little of it really goes to waste.

        Yup..that's how we did it.
        Hang
        Skin
        Cut back straps out.
        Cut front shoulders out
        Cut hams out
        Maybe..cut in to get loins
        Cut head/neck.

I got the whole process posted online at our other hang outs.

        Saves a bunch of time.imho.

I think it works best with large animals. I've seen youtube do elk like that, never a whitetail. I've also seen hogs butchered down like that (farm hogs, not feral) on occasion.
