I've been having trouble getting citrus to grow (besides the lowquats)

this is my third try... effort 1 and 2 both died off over a winter.
this time I planed in a more protected location, put down black ?weedguard? cloth and put straw bales around base to protect from cold and wind.
I've been waiting for this thing to turn pretty and orange... it was 90% green but it started splitting. (too much water I think... I waited too late to water because of the draught, then I overwatered)

we are supposed to be too far north for citrus... by just a few miles... so i'm trying!

I ate it. very good. but not super sweet yet...
folks we may need whatever nutrients are in citrus....
    get ya some!

When I started planting my small orchard I took a lot of advice from thesurvivalgardener.com on fruit trees that thrived in our area of Florida.

Citrus trees due to the citrus greening disease no longer make the cut for what can be grown well in Florida long-term. You might want to check out his blog. He has some suggestions for fruit trees north of Florida as well that might grow better for you than citrus.
