This year we tried a new variety of tomatoes called Defiant. They were very successful. Fruit is a bit small. Tennis ball, usually. Some bigger fruits. Very little cracking or splitting. It is early and late blight resistant and the seeds are pretty pricey at a quarter each when ordering 250. Only real problem is it is an f1 hybrid. So no seed saving.

What was your most successful variety this year?

I tried a new (to me) hybrid called early girl. Small fruit but, in an 4x8 raised bed, I've gotten over 60 tomatoes so far with about 15-20 still on the vines. They're a little smaller than a tennis ball (about 1/3 pound each).

We had some Better Girls, an "improved" early girl. They did pretty well. Like you said a bit small, but I think most of the early types are.

My wife is a fan of Better Boy. We had a great harvest this year, no bug problems, no rot problem. Couldn't have been happier.
