Has anyone invested in a solar cooker? We at the Foster bunker like to crock pot cook in the cooler weather. As cooler weather is coming (thank goodness) I began to think about slow cooking and I am always thinking about alternative methods of heat, cooking, etc. I have almost enough wood ready for heat, but I have a fireplace insert that makes it difficult to cook on. I haven’t tried a rocket stove yet. I have tried to make a solar cooker, with no success other than to cook my retinas. Has anyone had success having a rocket stove at a lower temp for an extended period of time? Has anyone tried a solar cooker in the Southeast? Lastly, why are commercial solar cookers so expensive?

I use gas grills and stove, but I am looking into solar. You are right, they are not cheap, but I guess it takes work to polish that stainless steell like a mirror. I really want to learn how to make my own CHARCOAL from hardwoods. I saw it done in Haiti everywhere (reason it is deforested), but they do it very inefficiently in a big pile. I have seen people on YouTube use barrels. Since I have a Big Green Egg grill/smoker, I really want to learn this skill...

We bought a Sun oven decades back. It was beau coup expensive even back then.
We've only used it a handful of times. Wasn't overly impressed with the results.Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"
Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"
Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"
