  • water residue

At my last home, I lived near a large reservoir. The water was treated heavily, and we had to keep at cleaning the pink residue off of the shower and toilet and dog bowl. In the lesser used bath, the slime will dry out and leave pink rings. I asked the local water department about it and they acted as if they did not know what I was referring to. Move forward one-year. I moved to my BOL, which when I purchased it, the water came from one of many deep wells in the county. Now, I have to clean the pink slime again; not as often, but it is still there. I found that the county signed a deal with the devil, I mean EPA for "water improvements.

I googled the pink problem. One municipality out of my state told their customers that it was an airborne mold and not the result of the water. I didn't believe that one either. Move forward again. My wife's little white dog has brown stains from here eyes. That breed has a forum that says to feed the dogs spring water and the problem will go away...and it did. Now, the dog bowl doesn't get pink slime either. What is our county putting in the water that leaves the slime? Chlorine, fluoride, G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate?

It's a bacteria/mold. We used to get it in our guest bath. I started making sure the exhaust fan runs in there for 20 minutes after the last shower.. Been gone for a couple years.

It could be high iron in the water... Or hydrogen sulfide which has to be aerated out of water, it cannot be filtered. I think you need to take a sample to a lab and have it tested. Labs do this all the time for people with wells. I don't think it will cost more than $100. The home test kits are very unreliable, IMO.

So you were once municipal water, now well water, and you get the pink slime from both sources? If so, sounds like your aquifer is not the best quality of water.

Thanks. No vent in the bathroom. I'll keep after it with the Clorox.

          Thanks RMPL,
No smell of Hydrogen Sulfide; I have experienced that before in another area. The dog blog that I mentioned did say that the dark tear ducts was a result of iron in the water. Spring water does stop the dark tears. I threw the big box store's home water kit in the garbage. Thanks for that. It looks like we may get a water filter for the house after having the water tested from an independent tester. I don't want to find out that all is well like in Flint, MI.
