Thought we would start a thread for hunting season stories, bragging rights, etc. this year.
Went out for the first time this year last night. I placed this stand out two years ago but had not been back to it since. Sitting up against a ginormous oak on a cleared fence line with good sight lines for about 200 yards. Established trails everywhere there.
After the baseline got back to normal heard the normal bustle of squirrels getting set for the night, had a LOW flyover by two big C130's, that was cool!
You know how you keep hearing/feeling something from a given area and kind of keep track of that? I had that "feeling" about an area just over the fence but about 30 yards up from me, basically about 160 degrees BEHIND me as you turn to the right.
So not long after dusk I'm sitting there in my chem suit (holds in scent and heat) and I hear a little bit more noise from one of those "feeling" areas- the hard 160 degree view. Trying to turn super slowly I see a flash of white tail- did I spook it? No one jumped the fence like it owned the place. Good thing I watched that movie "White Zombies can't jump" cause I would have to change my property line fence now LOL. Scanning the area it's deer a palooza- there is 4 other deer besides the one that jumped the fence! I start slowly slowly turning while doing a shoulder transfer and they freeze, tails up. Damn! I freeze. Waiting game. They are about 20 yards away but are basically behind me. Wait, don't move a muscle.
One blows hard and they all take off.
All I got last night was mosquito bites :) Gonna wait for another cold snap.
