  • chicken help...911ish

Had a hen go limp on us last night. Acting "drunk".bobble head etc. Some small blood speckles on her comb. We are able to grab inspect etc with out much fuss. Today i came home wife unit had seperated her and tried to give her water. Has one eye thats puffy..looks like dried blood/dirt in her nostiles. None at the mouth.
Some feathers missing around her neck. Breathing is fast...least to me say 18 per min but varies and is labored. We thinking the rooster got way rough on her maybe broke ribs or a lung but...besides the labored breaths no other signs.
    Trying to keep her calm....
Any help is welcome ...but i dont see her lasting the night and dont want needless suffering. Rooster is slated for the pot after my on call rotation ends this week.

Took care of things. Not much of a bird gutter. Liver looked good...nice and dark...pulled two globes like golf balls ??? Kidneys ? Guess i shoulda been turkey /bird hunting vs 4 legged critters all my life.
Wife unit laughed when i brought out the pruners to loop off the legs /wings and neck.
Only damage i could see was some spur punctions on her back.
Dehydration maybe with kidney failure ? Guts looked full...crop? Empty.....
    Any ideas ?.

I personally, pre-PAW, do not eat, knowingly, sick animals...

The sick animals that make it to our grocery stores I choose not to know. But we know...

Yeah kinda where i sit on it. The lesson the females of the clan got last night was worth the investment into that bird. They have done fish and watched me do tree rats...but havent "pulled" the trigger per say. So its really not wasted.

Wife i thinks trying to push forward the roosters end day...lol

My dog is what shocked me as well she knew something was up and was on point on the bird and wouldnt leave the edge of the pen.....rooster loved that lol

I don't know what was wrong with bird.
I do know that as a kid raising chickens that we put down a bird that fit your description.
and no, we didn't eat it.

my parents were 2 depression era folks and they didn't waste food or any resource..
if they didn't eat sick chicks, then there was a reason for it.
