  • What's your summer projects?

Summer is often a good time to get a lot done on the homestead. For parents, it often means a source of free or cheap labor is there for the taking :)

Sometimes it means some vacation time that can be used for projects. Sometimes it's just the longer light hours that helps.

What's your summer projects on the home front? Got some prep related projects to start/finish up?

Im looking for a new (to me) home. The subdivision of my last 20 years is chocked full of hoodlums, druggies, welfare addicts, and renters coming and going at an alarming rate. the stream of break in's and car burglaries is a weekly thing. Cant leave the central FL area due to my job. But getting out of this area. Looking for something more rural area, non subdivision. Really would like to get in the country but the job and lack of money to pick up and homestead just isnt there.
Im also looking into a project vehicle Pick up truck/small car 75 and older to tinker with and have for a backup and EMP tolerable.

I'm needing to repair and/or replace some fencing. After 22 years and a few hurricanes, it needs some help.

Added bananas ...black berries and more blue Berry plants. Grapes are coming in...can't wait.

I keep debating on doing selective pruning @removal of trees in the back to allow more light in. Just don't want it to thin.
Keep thinking of putting some poles just inside the gates with heavy cable for redundancy .

For once no summer projects. We sold our house to move closer to my work, 80 mile commute one way after 2 years was enough. In addition we pulled our son from Public Edumacation bout half way through the school year. Both kids are going to Private Christian School next year. Wife is going back to work when the kids are in school. Planning to be back in a house in 2 years or less. Hoping to find 1-2 acre with ranch style house. Then I am going to get my permaculture on. Oh I guess the one project is a real vacation this year to PCB.

Adding turkeys and rabbits (again) this summer. Just finish with a pig, that was cooked for the daughters wedding and trying to locate two more (for a reasonable price) so I can fatten to kill and put in the freezer this winter.

Working with a family that has a small spread, helping with projects and the garden and getting a share of the garden and fruit trees. To busy (with work) to take care of a garden full time so helping someone else out for a share seems to be working ok, so far.

Well, I finished my AR build a couple months ago but I needed to adjust the timing of the barrel nut so the front rail was in line with the rifle. I finished that last week and took it out yesterday to break in the barrel & sight it in. I was shooting .223 55gr FMJ from Remington at 50 yards using MBUS. Here are the final results:

"One cannot but ponder the question: what if the Arabs had been Christians? To me it seems certain that the fatalistic teachings of Mohammed and the utter degradation of women is the outstanding cause for the arrested development of the Arab. He is exactly what he was around the year 700, while we have kept on developing. Here, I think, is a text for some eloquent sermon on the virtues of Christianity." - General George S. Patton, diary, June 9, 1943.

I have decided to add a Gissele Single Stage trigger and a scope. I haven't decided on a scope yet. Looked at EOTech 512a65 but I have astigmatisms in both eyes that make the display very fuzzy to the point the sight is useless.
