let's just say... there was this guy... and he had a gate over the driveway..
just a farm gate.. or a chain link gate...
I'm sure the majority of guys on here already have a gate.
then ebola, muslims, Koreans, zombies or aliens flare up and "time to lock the gate."
currently the gate closes with a little horseshoe shaped latch, and or a chain, or a little 3/8" pole stuck in the ground, or an electrically operated arm that holds it closed.
all of these would be very efficient at keeping out the paper boy (unless he wanted to climb over)
but the concern is that a car load or truck load of folks from ferguson want to drive in for a drive by shooting/looting time.
how do you fortify the gate to slow down the chevy truck?? that could easily crash through the gate.
two thoughts come to mind...
1. have an old oak tree trunk nearby that you could drag across the driveway just behind or in front of the gate.
2. dig a hole about 3' deep and drop a 9' section of tree trunk down in the hole. it would probably take 2 of the holes to cover the open span.
placing said holes behind or in front of gate.
what do you say?
what are negatives and positive issues of your plan or mine?
the gate would be the weakest point on the fence...
but any comments on reinforcing the fence also welcomed.
I figure a few on here even have a moat (creek!) around all or part of the house..
same question for where the drive crosses the creek?
