well, there was this friend.. i'll call him phil.
(for my favorite tv show patriarch)
I was visiting phil, an old geezer, at his farm, and asked about an older house that was near the property.
it turned out that phil had had a chance to buy it and a 5 acres for very reasonable price and
ole phil had passed on the deal... the house was old and needed some repairs..
when phil told me the selling price, I thought wow, phil should have bought it...
and informed phil that I was interested if the current owners decided to sell for a similar price.
phil told me, he wishes he'd bought it!!
occupants of that house will have a view of a portion of phil's farm and situation.
--
my dad and uncles sold the family farm... it was divided into pieces and most of it went to neighbors and relatives
that already owned adjoining property...
the deals were made "across the fence"
imagine two farmers propped up on the fence and one agrees to buy the "back 40" from his neighbor.
no real estate agents, no advertising expense, no town gossip, no one from town even knows the deal is going down.
no curious busy bodies driving over the property and walking through the house. ..
--
so, have you bought the neighboring lot, neighboring farm, or house next door??
in order to grow your own property?
to control who/what happens there?
to gain benefits of property? whether extra housing? or a water source? or fertile field?
--
a close friend is faced with this situation now.
he can't really afford it..
but how often do you get to buy the place next door?
so, I pose the question?
have you?
or have you passed on the deal?
are you glad or sad? whether you bought or didn't?
maybe you didn't and the local meth head moved in!!
or you did, and you will be renting house out to a trusted like minded family?
or you are just glad that property borders have been spread out a little!
