  • loss of tv and internet

I've recently spent a lot of time working a few hundred miles from home in a location without internet or tv.

it has been tough.. withdrawal symptoms...
I would sneak off for an hour or so to find a wifi location to check emails etc..

these communication methods that I have gotten so used to in daily life...
    I think I'm addicted...

I had no idea if there was a huge invasion in the Ukraine, etc..

    just a thought.
I guess I need to get a ham radio.

The wife and I have spent the last 2 months without tv & internet, just moved into town. I didn't realize how much I had missed for news. I'm looking for a small shortwave radio.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

RR, EX121 hit the nail on the head. You need a small shortwave radio. You could get news reports from somewhere other than the the lamestream media.

I know how ya feel, when we stay at the BOL we have no T.V. or internet but I do have a huge old shortwave and a newer portable so I can keep up.

Without the distractions I get a lot more work done though. ;)

We cut cable tv about 1.5 months ago (Roku and Netflix is all we have) saved us >$100/month... I can't cut the internet because it allows me to work from home 2 days a week. I keep up with news via drudge report and radio.

Hoping a new Fibre company will become a competitor to Comcast in my town.

I hardly ever get on the internet or watch satellite at home. Most of my interface with the wide world is on my smart phone.

In a real long term outage situation you have to consider the young people who have grown up with the Internet being their main means of communication. Withdrawal does not describe what you may see. We have a doctor in our group and his opinion is there may be a number of young people who might end their lives with the prospect of no internet. This would be especially true of on line game players.

I guess it comes from being old school that I prefer being in the woods are at the beach fishing. I don't even have a tv in our travel trailer set up. I do have a short wave receiver. I have my grandfather's old Philco shortwave receiver still. I need to replace the tubes while I can still get them. Russia is the only place still making tubes for radios. GB
