  • security... uninvited guests... ??

    folks,
in today's society.. how do you handle, or suggest handling an uninvited guest
    --
I've solved the issue with one door to door religious group... I have photos and names and addresses... of individuals and their cars.
they've been told not to return... they will be trespassing, I've advised several guests and asked them to mark "the map on the wall." and advise their religious leadership. the friendly hints didn't work.

I'm considering additional cameras, gate, posted signs,

so.. what has a friend of yours done? what do you, or your friend plan to do... to slow down uninvited guests. we want to have a good friendly reputation in the area... but, I'd really rather that folks stay on the road!
a situation developed today, that brought up this question...

    ideas? suggestions?

How about a gate on the driveway, with a bell/intercom, plus copious "Dog Warning" signs... Maybe a few Wiccan symbols on the lawn...I keep a pig on the porch for muslim repellent...

    You are too polite, maybe?

    Regards,
    Templar
    Salutations,
    Templar

        bicycle boys nope...
I have some respect for that organization.
        --
        witnesses...
on their first visit, they told me they knew me... that we'd been so nice to them before.
3 things wrong... we'd just moved there. me and prior owner both had whiskers.
it dawned on me to ask where they lived... they were evasive.. didn't want to say... I was very familiar with their town.
they finally gave me a specific location. but when I checked later... they didn't live there.
the women were chatty cathy's the men didn't want to look at me.. and didn't want to talk to me.. and they were both big ole hosses and dressed in suits. down around these parts, you refuse to look at a fella, that ain't good.
        --
another group came back later.. my wife and mother were walking and talking... witnesses stopped in driveway to talk...
I came up behind. mother was being polite. BUT, she's a warrior for the One and Only... finally I stepped from behind them and was firm... this crowd had been here before... I told them about prior visitors being liars and deceivers. again, the men wouldn't look at me... dressed in suits but avg size fellas. I explained how they were to back up and turn around procedure.. they told me how they would drive to exit... contrary to my too polite (as Templar explained) instructions. well.. politeness broke down.
        --
yesterday.. jrh's machine started going... alert, zone 2.. alert zone 2... alert zone 2. I casually looked and saw 2 4 wheelers.
I'm getting slow, but, finally caught them.. I knew one of the 4.. he was looking for lost dogs.
        --
time for a gate.. bride and I have discussed before... just a big ole farm gate... I need for it to get rusty looking..
anybody bought or used one of those mule brand closing machines? operating from a solar charger?

          this is what i have.....

fenced in "inner" yard. out side of that fence is chest high thick shrub/hedge line. the other 2 sides have 1/4 acre or more of nice thick jungle..lol
          i have 3 gates.
the front two - these are entry exits for cars, our drive is a large semi circle. however to enter or "get past " the gates you must come to a dead stop/slow to get thru. reason- deep culverts and narrow drive and very large trees on each side.these sit back from the road by just a car length.
3rd gate is a person only gate. to get to it it gotta go thru my own personal swamp/jungle. not very hard to do,,but honestly..if your doing bad what isnt.
          no trespass signage out front.
my attack rooster- he hears a noise or see's something he dont know or like he belts out a few notes.
super uber survival dawg- this is a pure bred prepper pooch..she has full run of the yard. only time we get on to her is when she has a bark and snip fit with the native indigenous dogs next door! she will run the fence barking at anyone or thing that walks past our home. she alerts us to everything from snakes to tree rats to bears. the yard is hers and she lets folks know it. which is fine by me!
gets annoying but if the local meth head trailer thug walks buy and shes going bat crazy at him as he strolls by...then maybe they'll think she's like that indoors,,,,aka deterrent.

lighting- my front yard has a large dusk till dawn aka street lamp in it...clear lit areas by the gates...photo controlled cfl light at 3rd gate 20 ft away so it cant be tampered with..but lights up that area. only two blind spots and one has two solar lights in it for ambient light.

i sleep light and my house is built like a tin can. a mouse farts outside i can hear it....lol

          i relocated imho thats key.
weve had only 3 "guest" at the gates. each time we stayed on our side..with survival dog at our side ...one was a cable company..other was religous.
we talked to both...the one's "witnessing" tous we talked etc with. older gentleman who was very polite,,had dog treats on hand and knew when to de-a$$...the younger guy with him not so much.

having the gate will cut down the "no knock" guest..if you have the jrh door bell system..set up a pair of binocs or spotting scope where you have a veiw of the gate..answer at your lieser.or run a low volt line with a speaker and just give them a polite " i see you...dont have time,,good bye.."
          lol
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

            RR,
I have the same problem at my BOL. I have two driveways and I need gates at both of them.
I recently talked to one of my farmer neighbors and he suggested two ten foot gates at each driveway. I need extra wide access to allow for tractors with mowers or bailers/plows to make it through. Its a sharp turn off our one lane gravel(at times) road. You could probably get by with a single 10' or 12' tube gate.

I don't mind the witnesses. The wife and I usually let them talk unless we are busy working. They don't stay too long as I open carry 24/7 at the farm and they are pacifists plus I look kinda scary. ;)

A gate and fencing is a must at any homestead.

No gate equals an open invitiation. Aka the "how was I supposed to know he didn't want someone down there?' excuse. Believe there is some legal relevance to this sort of thing also.

Power meter and various easement crappola needs to be outside the gate if at all possible as well. Not possible for everyone but figured I'd mention for the starting from scratch not yet built folks reading.

If this is the same group I'm thinking, the quickest I have ever seen them leave my area is when I witnessed to them about my beliefs. I wanted to sit and have a discussion, but they suddenly wanted to leave. I don't have them visit much anymore. I know some groups are told not to listen to others outside their group, but I don't know how widespread this is or if it's a local thing.

I agree. Our first year we had a survey done and one side fenced, another side fenced the second year. It can be expensive, especially if you use woven wire field fencing as I did.

At the front of my property along the road the only access points are where I need the gates. The rest is large Oak, Hickory and Honet Locust.

My electric meter is up the driveway but they recently installed one that can be read with some handheld thingy, don't know how far it transmits though.

We don't have the automatic gate yet, but its coming. We have a stop sign at the start of the driveway that says 'private driveway! No exceptions!' Think they'd stop right? Nope. Halfway down the driveway is a 'beware of dog' sign. 30 yrds from the house is a 'DANGER! KEEP OUT!' Sign. Three 'dangerous dog' and 'beware of dog' signs on the perimeter yard, front and back as we have two well trained German shepherd dogs. One is a personal protection dog, the other is a sentry dog. People STILL come to the house. A stranger drove up a while back and, I'm not kidding, BLEW HIS HORN ON HIS TRUCK. I found this extremely disrespectful so I politely went out on the porch with Sam Colt (didn't point it at him) and told him unless he plans on paying the land taxes to blow his horn in his own d**n driveway. I found out from a neighbor about a mile up the road, the stranger said he was selling driveway pavement. Lowdown is right, no gate = open invite. Sad but true.
