Geese are very noisey but do crap a lot. Anouther big plus for geese is they eat a lot of grass and weeds rather than grains as preferred by chickens.
Guineas are even more of a guard bird than geese and are very noisey when someone drives on the property.
I know they put lamas in with sheep because they will guard the sheep from dogs and coyotes.
I have a pair of English Shepherds that are great guard dogs. The funny thing about this breed is when I get home they actually run the perimeter of the farm before coming up to me rather than running right to you as most dogs do.

I have given some serious thought to a pair of Belgian Malinois. A buddy of mine is a handler and trainer for security and detection dogs. The animal itself does not need to be all that expensive but the real cost is in the training and the time. You can't just put a highly trained dog back in the safe like you can a gun. You have to keep their skills sharp which means constant training and drills, Kinda like US!! It's awfully tempting when you consider what a great tool these kind of dogs are.. It's just time and money right ;)

Grand,
I am not sure if it is just "hear say" or truth but King Snakes not only eat rodents they are supposed to be good at dealing with other snakes namely the dangerous kinds...
Here in WNC, Copper Head snakes can become real problem for some home owners... My parents are one such troubled home owner, they keep killing Copper heads around the house 4 to 5 a year and many times they are on their front walk way or back patio. They keep talking about getting a King Snake or two to release in the area in hopes they will push out or eat the Copper Heads.
Good Dogs are hard to beat... When I was kid we lived in the "Back Woods", our driveway was over a 1/4 mile to the road and we had a German Shepard. The dog would warn us if we goofing off too much in the morning and going to late for the bus. The dog would met us at the end of the driveway after school. It was always "on guard" even when we were playing with that dog.
