  • What Movies Would You Stock at Your Retreat?

******, of Surviving in Argentina, said that having lots of movies was a good thing because when Argentina collapsed, people didn't have the money to go out and staying at home was safer. What movies are on your retreat movie list? (assuming there is some sort of electric available)

    I'll go first.

    1. Anything funny: Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Nacho Libre, Princess Bride, My Cousin Vinny, O Brother Where Art Thou, Back to the Future
    2. Inspiring: The Sound of Music, Ten Commandments, Chariots of Fire, Holes
    3. Action: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Crouching Tiger-Hidden Dragon, Bourne Series,
    4. Fantasy: Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Star Wars, The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean 1

That's what I've thought of so far.

Since we don't have cable or Dish TV, we have a bunch of DVD's and videos. From Andy Griffith to the new Battlestar Galatica, Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles, old Tour of Duty TV show, a lot of odd older stuff.

"The Last of the Mohicans", best movie ever. A few John Wayne movies and almost anything funny or inspiring would be good to have.

I can not believe no one has mentioned Red Dawn

I have also seasons 1-6 of Macgyver, Little house on the Prairie, Andy Griffith (a couple of years), Swiss Family Robinson (DVD's of the TV series)

For me i have alot of what is mentioned in the Action stuff and my Sherlock Homes (the only real ones imo are with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce).

I have all seasons of 24 (except last season as its not on DVD that I know of) that will go even if I have to leave a bucket of rice behind, LOL.
Bourne Trilogy, Shooter, Sahara, BH Down, Ironman, Fantastic Four, Transformers, Saving Private Ryan, Mamma Mia, Jeff Dunham (comedian)

Kid movies...Finding Nemo, Incredibles, Little House on the Prarie, Stick It (gymnastics movie), Pink Panther.

These are a few of what we have, but would bring as many as I could to help with the psychological aspect of everything that would be happening.

Don't forget audio books for entertainment. They make you have to visualize what is happening. These are good for kids especially as it helps with their imagination.

Sheepdog has a good idea. Audio Books. A great way to while away time. As for movies, in the little circle of friends I move in, I am the movie guy. I have nearly 1000 DVDs. People have given many to me as gifts. Some favorites or must haves, anything Star Trek. Frasier, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Battlestar both old and new. You can't go wrong with a John Wayne movie or Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry or most of his cowboys movies.

Pink Panther is awesome. The old cartoons were the best ones. I've never heard my son giggle so much as when he watched Pinkey.

I agree on audio books. I have a very large collection for my iPod. I listen to them when traveling or doing mundane things like cleaning house. I recently listened with the old classic books I had read in the past. It's amazing how novels written centuries ago are more entertaining than some of the new stuff.

As far a DVDs, I also love the old TV classics. My husband loves westerns and old 1950's syfy movies. I have almost no 'new stuff' in my collection. Give me "Gone with Wind" or "Apollo 13" or "Night of the Living Dead". (Love those zombie movies)
