Just a thought:

Many benefical plants can be started from items you can pick up at the grocery store.

Celery seed
Dill seed
Fennel
Dried chiles
Horseradish
Ginger

Google horseradish, ginger (and anything else you can think of) because these don't start from seeds. They must.be started with a piece of root (like a potato) and you can only do that if you have a root! I have vac packed some of each and I HOPE to find out if they're still viable in 6 mos, a year...?

Dill and fennel are weeds so sprinkle them at your BOL now and they'll be ready and not stick out as 'a garden'. The medical and health benefits of hradish and ginger will be right up there with garlic and such as antibiotics, expectorants to clear lung infections and poultices.

Many of these things need to be tested in your areas prior to SHIF. I hope this gets you thinking.:)
