  • Dang! Had to shoot another "Dump Dog" today!

Man! I wish people would stop bringing their unwanted pets out to the country and dumping them. When they pack up, they get to be dangerous. I have some young calves I worry about, as do my neighbors. Even if they don't pack up, they start hanging around a house and get to be a nuisance. Not to even mention rabies concerns from a strange dog hanging around.

Some time ago an elderly lady walking down her long lane to check her mailbox by the highway was attacked by a pack of dump dogs. She got chewed on pretty good. A deputy sheriff showed up about an hour later and shot 2 of the dogs, but 7 or 8 got away.

It still gives me the blues for a couple of days to shoot a dog, even though it needs to be done. I'd have about 30 dogs hanging around the house here if I didn't take care of the problem.

If you don't want your pet anymore, and there's no place to turn them in, do your own dirty work. Stop shoving it off on us out here in the country.

That's really sad, but needs to be done. I just don't understand what people who do that think.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Has a neighbor who thinks her dogs can do no harm and NEVER ever leave her yard.
Ive seen them 2 miles down the road, ive seen them a 1/2 mile down the road playing in the swamp, Ive seen them in the back 200 acres chasing my other neighbors cows. Man if he saw that he would shoot them on sight.
I killed one of them who killed my chickens in my fenced yard in my fenced pen. The dog sat there happily wagging its tail and chewing on my chicken when I drove up.
BANG dead doggy. If you dont want your dog take it to the pound or give it to a friend. If you cant take care of your dog and keep it in your yard then you dont deserve to have it in the first place.

I worry about this with us moving further out into the country next weekend. I have 2 small kids that WILL be playing outside on the regular. I also worry about coyotes out there. I have a buddy that just by chance I found out lives 1/2 mile from me. He said strays are bad. He has shot 4 pitbulls in the last couple of weeks. Same song and dance, dump em up on the country roads, someone will take them in.
        Not I.
I plan on having some trail cams up on my property to spy on the night but if I see coyotes or strays that can become a serious problem to my boys I have no quarrels with leaving a steak hanging from a tree in the back yard and waiting up on Santa.

I have never been the person with the heart for pets or animals. I know people that buy their dogs clothes and have strollers for them. Wamp wamp
If one of my animals is sick beyond repair or dies, I let em go to Mother Natures worm farm.
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

have done a little coyote hunting with a electronic caller. Worked great for all the stray dogs, and only called in 2 coyotes in 5 tries. If you are wanting to remove the dogs, on of those electronic callers works great.

A friend who lives on the edge of town just killed to chow type dogs that were growling and following kids to the bus stop. He asked the owner to control them and was told to @#$#$#. Because it was in a semi-rural neighbor hood the jerk owner said well I guess you can't shoot them. But he didn't consider that may friend is a good archer. Friend said he killed both at 30 yards and they dropped in their tracks. His wife videoed the dogs menacing the kids again but not the shots only the bodies after.
Sherriff & County Attorney both said it was justified when they got involved.
Folks need to control their animals.
I think a lot of the PAW fiction writers got the dog packs as part of the story line correct.

Feral dogs are much more destructive than a normal predator. They have the instincts, but aren't exactly sure what to do with them. If something came in at night and killed a chicken it could be a number of predators. If something came in and killed all of the chickens it's usually a dog. Same for goats, sheep, calves, dogs, etc. Also it's usually dogs when adult horses or cattle are involved.
