  • Built a bushcraft shelter today...

I did a shelter project this afternoon. Took about 4 hours. First I cut down the dead tree. I built a frame out of the lumber and tied it together with vines. I weaved a vine frame. Lastly, I weaved in palmetto fronds for the roof

All it needs is memory foam mattress and maid service in the morning and that is Sandals 'On The Beach" Resort Material!!
        I love it!
        Great Job!

That is awesome!!! I think it's time to take our tribe campin'! We don't have any palm fronds down here though and mesquites don't work to well, kinda skimpy.

            what kind of lifespan??
with reasonable weather it looks to me like
this structure would last a few years.
what about the palmetto fronds? would they dry out real fast?
and if so, i assume they could be overlayed with a new layer just making the
            shelter even more rain/weather proof??

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I just checked on it today and there was alot of sunshine coming through the roof. The palmetto fronds shrank up as they dried just like grass does. That caused gaps. I guess you would have to re-roof it often to keep it watertight. time consuming, but the roof was fairly fast and easy to put up.
