  • First trip to the BOL.

Well. We made it to the BOL. We got our shelter cleaned and some odds and ends taken up there. The first load of many! We saw some deer and a lot of hog sign as well as other game. We came up with some ideas for LP/OP locations. There's a lot of work to do but it feels good to finally get the ball rolling. We're excited. We have some tough terrain and it's gonna be good training. I was glad to see good vegetation though, and we have raised beds in future plans. It was a good weekend.

I'm jealous! We're still looking for one in Oklahoma. Working to find a home situated in the country just right so we can "bug in". I look forward to hearing about how things go with your location as you learn various things we all might need to know as we look for and set ours up. Wish you and yours great success!

We are very fortunate. In the mid 90's the company I worked for downsized and I was offered a chance to relocate. We had been dreaming and praying for a chance to move from South Florida to the country.
We now have a homestead that is far enough from any towns/cities over 2,000 people that we feel safe.
Actually, it is on a dead end dirt road 6 miles outside a one stoplight town.
We are truly blessed, and we don't take it for granted.
        Thank you, LORD!

We did a lot of praying before we came across this place. We asked God to shut any doors that weren't supposed to be open to us. We know we are blessed and take nothing for granted either.

I like folks with proper priorities. God/Family/Work.

That's what we're looking for Rice. If I wasn't still working it would be easier. Need to find a place within a 30 min. radius of my job.

I commute into the big city 5 days a week, one hour each way. But it's pretty clear sailing, very few traffic lights, and I consider it just another part of living in the country.
I put XM satelite radio in the vehicle and the two hours a day I'm onboard isn't too bad.
Just a lttle over two more years and it will be retirement time.
