    Thank you.

    We have some of the catalpa trees on the property. I never thought of them as a wood producing tree. We also have quite a bit of oak.

        Sorry to hear of you and DH's loss MustangGal. Hope you guys find likeminded folks to rent your place to.
        Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

          MustangGal, my sincere condolences to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

          I'm glad to hear that y'all plan to stay put for a while, as I have to agree with everyone else...it sounds like y'all are in a pretty sweet location, that many preppers would give their right led for.

              Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. We do appreciate them.

              We were talking more about staying tonight, mostly why I had suddenly changed my tune. As many of you have pointed out we are very blessed. While moving is still attractive, I feel like we are beind the eight-ball and it would be better to make the best of what we have - and without a mortgage that will be much easier than trying to buy another place.

                As Dave Ramsey would say, a paid in full mortgage is the new sign of wealth. You are truely blessed and think staying put is the right thing to do. Good luck.

                  MustangGal if I was closer to retirement the wife(Patriot Lady)and I might be in the market for moving to the Ozarks to be near some likeminded survivalists! If you're mortgage free I say stay that way! I'm jealous! LOL

                    I think we are going to stay. Not sure what we will do about/with the mobile, but for now we will live in it while we remodel the house. We discussed it with my parents, and although it would be nice for us to be closer to them (we are still less than 20 miles away), it seems like the most sensible choice not to take on a mortgage at this point. If we change our minds later on, everything we are planning to do will only add value to the house.

                    We are going to start in what will be the Man Cub's room. That way, if it does ..... if, who am I kidding... WHEN it gets stormy, we can sleep down there and be close to the cellar.

                      Just wanted to update. We have finished the Man Cub's room, our room is almost finished, and the kitchen is about half finished, and we have the storage room finished except for the shelving - right now we are using it to stage all the paint, faucets, plumbing supplies, etc, etc, that go with a massive remodel. Most of the cabinets are in place in the kitchen, the plumbing needs to be finished, then painting the ceiling, cabinets, and installing floors and it will be done. That will leave two bathrooms (one we have to create), a utility room, the dining room, and living room. DH has set a goal of July 4th to be finished, but I am afraid we won't make the goal. Not that it matters that much, I am so thankful we don't have to try to live in it while we remodel. We also have people interested in purchasing the mobile.

                          I'd say you guys are staying busy! Awesome on selling the mobile! Now when all of us show up with our trailers and RVs to your BOL there'll be more room! LOL

                            Oh, and I forgot one VERY exciting (to me anyway) discovery. On DH's uncle's property, which joins ours, about ten feet from the property line is a very deep, functional well. He currently uses city water, saying it is cheaper than the electricity to run the well pump, but it is there! WooHoo!

                              Can't beat having a water source...well, pond, creek, river....! Part of our requirement for what we're looking for ina home is one of the above water sources.

                                I Google Earth'ed (is that a verb? lol) the local water sources. One pond, on our side of the road - .17 miles, pond across street - .25 miles, very cold stream, 3 miles, via road - country dirt road. LOTS of ponds between here and there.

                                Plus, I found out last night, the house has a cistern under it. Don't know more than that, but it is something we need to look into.
