  • water tower/gravity fed system

    hi everyone,

looking for some advise as to gravity feed system. seen a lot of older houses that have a water tower or some such ting on the back 40. seems like a great idea for pressurised water without the need for a pump. a windmill for the pump to bet the water up to the tower, then just a regulater assembly to get it into the house.

is anyone here currently running this setup?

I've never used it, would like to know, too. One thing I have noticed is that there was no more common sight when I was growing up in rural midwest than a broke-down windmill. Better have a lot of spare parts.

I have had one in the past and we are considering putting another one in at the new place. there are some places on rural water systems where the pressure is so low you have to have tanks to boost it up. If you have a water well with a wind powered pump look for a new one. Will this be a stand alone unit or will it be tied into a house with an outside source as well? Remember any water you take from your well needs to be filtered and checked for things like Radon. I would certainly use a plumber when putting the system in place. also remember extreme cold weather effects your pipes coming into your house. It is a very good idea and well worth the money if you have it. The Tower and wind pump will be a big expense here. They are not cheap.
