  • Trying to ID type of security door

I've watched a few programs set in NYC. apartment doors somethimes have a sort of security mechanism on them, it looks like a knob or handle in the center of the (metal) door, which when turned pushes two steel bars the extra couple inches on each ende to slide into metal sleeves adfixed to the door frame. (in short, this is a simple-to-operate door barring system). One show I've seen it on rfrequently is FX's rescue me in Tommy Gavin's condo/apartment.

I've searched th internet using terms like "security door" but have found nothing like this.

Anyone no what they're called,. where they can be found, or if they work well?

My planned use is in a wine-celler/storm shelter/safe room I have.

The key phrase you need to search for would be "multi point door locks"

      Here is one site

Securitech is a premier provider of high-security locking solutions. From classrooms to behavioral healthcare wards to critical infrastructure, we secure your most important doors.

That's pretty awesome. I had put a little thought into a "safe room" but never really figured what kind of door I could use.

            Thank eeyore.

The securitech site seems to sell the locks, etc, not the doors. The "police" models can be added to existing doors, apparently pretty easily. I'n not quite sure how they do the concealed door -- maybe you send them your door for factory install?

matt, that is exactly the thing I was originally talking about (although I will price the four-point systems as well). They even note their common use as a NYC prop for TV.
