    Anyone planting a fall garden?

I am done with the summer stuff here, was very very hot here, tomatoes and peppers did well though.

For the fall I am planting broccoli, bush green beans, squash, carrots, and some dwarf peas.

    How about anyone else?

Not yet here. Still have tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Corn is done, potatoes did not make this year, rabbits got the lettuce beans and greens.

Have never planted double plantings or Fall gardens, maybe next year

We got turnips, kale and Collards seeds today. We still have peas, tomatoes and okra. Corn didn't do well because of the drought. Hope your garden does well and you get enough rain.

Nope, to busy hunting in the fall to be gathering. I have 4 deer seasons to include youth season with my daughter and a new hunter to educate this year (a friends grandson), dove, fall turkey, possibly geese as well as a firearm training session teaching about 100 boy scouts. Add in IPSC and a job qualification course and all my fall days are spent behind the trigger and cleaning table, no time for a hoe. Carnavores rule:)

Matt, I salute you for teaching our young folks to shoot. We do that as a family as well. My youngest son is a ranger for a Boy Scout camp near here. It's kind of neat that he spent so much time there growing up and now lives there with his family.

To keep on topic with this post, I guess you could plant food plots. Good luck with your hunting this year.

This will be my first fall garden attempt. Wish me luck.

My summer garden was less than perfect. I found out that my spots on the peppers and tomatos were from a lack of lime and the yellowing of the bottom leaves showed a lack of nitrogen. Live and learn.

I've already pulled up my summer crop. The terrible heat here right now resulted in poor performance the last few weeks. However, I have the seeds for a fall garden. Now I have to wory about when to start planting. It's still really hot, and most web site say to plant in September, but I worry it may still be too hot.

Barfife, it'll be my first winter garden also. Anyone with experience know when to plant that winter garden?

                    hi from southern ontario canada
i will be planting my first fall garden in my second hand(9 x 13 greenhouse), i plan on growing cool crops this year and also will be trying to grow items like tomatoes.
the greenhouse will be heated, so this will be interesting as i have never had a greenhouse before.
if anyone has any idea's , happy to learn/

                      Good to hear from everyone,

the summer heat and humidity were murder here this time, some days had heat indices of 115-120F!! Terrible and dangerous, the garden did well all things considered though. But I really enjoy the cooler weather veggies, so fall and and late winter/early spring are my favorite planting times. I usually try to plant as mentioned in my opening comment cooler weather items, that really thrive in cooler weather. Alaskan dwarf peas, some bush beans, Broccoli, carrots, and some winter squash, maybe some leafy greens too. Garlic and onions if I have space. Accoording to the planting guide for my climate zone which rages from 6A/B to 7A/B planting should start any where from August 1 to September 20 or so, depending on the crop and heat. Also, as September approaches and certainly October, working in the Garden is much easier without so much heat and insects.

I'm planning to do a fall garden, but I have to turn up a new place to plant since my summer garden is still producing a lot of okra and the sweet tater vines are taking over the whole thing. Like most everyone else, the heat is still oppressive so I'm going to wait a little longer.
What a long, strange trip it's been.....

Greenhouses are awesome. I've had mine for years and have such great success. Just a tid bit, remember heat rises, so put your more heat tolerant plants higher and your cooler ones on the floor. The nice tho
G is that you can move the plants around and control the temp. Have fun and good luck, if I can help at all let me know. I am still learning about so much, but I would love to share my experiences where I can.
