Hopefully in the next 24 hours, I'll be in the inspection stages of finally getting a house and land. I've looked at more houses than I care to think about in the past few weeks and have come to the decision on one. While I could have taken a harder stance on the price, I got it for a decent deal and included 5 acres with the property. 1750 sq ft MOL and 4.85 acres MOL (I think on the More side rather than the Less from looking over the property and house), well water and septic, fireplace and good storage so it's more than adequate for my needs. Taxes (which suck, but can suck a little less) are decent and under a grand which compared to some of the places I've seen, that's pretty good.
While some might see it as a dump, I see a lot of potential and a "fixer upper" and can do with it as I choose from the studs out. Some might see it as remote, I see it as far enough outside the city (but not that far) as to escape the normal problems seen in Oklahoma, Midwest and Del Cities. Others see the work involved, but I see something that's worth doing right and taking care of it as it should have been before. Many would run and look for a house that's "move in ready" and little has to be changed. But for me? I like the idea of being able to go and do as I need to and see unlimited potential. It's sat for two, almost three years so there are issues, but nothing that can't be overcome again with a little elbow grease and time.
Lot of work that has to be done with cleaning and clearing the property, as well as some renovations to the house, garage and barn, but hard work hasn't scared me in the least. But for the moment, the roof doesn't leak, the well pump is working fine and the heating and air works fine. And of course, the obligatory "Holy cow! I have to buy all this stuff?!" when it comes to a new home, but again, to be expected. I've already started making my lists and Lowes, Sears, Home Depot and Ace Hardware are going to be very happy I decided to buy lol.
So hopefully within the next 30 days, I'll be in a new home and screaming about this and that being wrong, but happily screaming since it keeps me busy. And the occasional (probably more lol) post about this and that and advice from the forum.
