  • The rabbit population at my house almost DOUBLED today.

Mama, our white NZ doe, had ten kits! We went from 12 to 22!

Now if we can just raise most of them. I thought she had been having a hard time dealing with the heat, plus I know bucks can go sterile in the heat, so I didn't really expect more than a few - heck I don't know where she hid them all! She didn't look that big!

If you have any advice, I am all ears!

Probably the best thing to do would have been to split them up into another mother, but that has to be done right away and has a chance of very little success (from what i read). I doubt she will be able to feed them all, just watch closely as often as you can, if a few die try to get them out as quick as possible.

DH and I talked about that. But my only other adult female has three kits kits that are about a month old right now. I am giving her a bit of oatmeal to help up her milk production. Apparently she had ten the last time, but the lady didn't have the nest box in w/ her or anything and she lost four of them. Three were born on the wire and the fourth died later.
