  • Plant question....does anyone have any idea what this is????

I swore this was a type of Wisteria because of the "grape like" purple flowers in the early spring...today I noticed these "pea pods" on it.....anyone have a clue what this is?

    Thanks in advance S&P Family

You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

It looks like a locust tree to me, does it have big thorns?

I did some poking around on line and there is a thornless honey locust. You might do a search on that and see if they match. Good luck! Oh and good thing NO THORNS, those suckers are nasty!

I think MustangGal, hit it on the head, it does look very much like a Honey Locust and the description fits also. Has a lot of uses also, good tree.

One of my HS science teachers, with a reputation as a bit of a fruit loop, had us make a tree identification notebook. I sure wish I had that notebook back now!

Wiseowl you called it. This stuff is beautiful but let it get away from you and it is trouble. I have Wisteria all over the place. I have to fight it all the time. Stuff is 40 feet up my trees as well.
